Developing subject knowledge with Teaching for Mastery to support laying the solid foundations in Early Years maths
All children are entitled to a strong mathematical foundation, enabling them to show the Characteristics of Effective Learning in mathematics. We know that early mathematical understanding is achieved during both child-initiated play, and adult teaching through meaningful contexts. This programme runs over 3 sessions and is designed to support practitioners develop their subject knowledge for the effective provision for mathematics learning.
Key areas addressed are:
- The developmental progression in early mathematical concepts (number patterns and structures)
- The learnings from research about what is effective in the learning and teaching of mathematics for younger children
- Pedagogical approaches and how they impact on learning and teaching mathematics
Who should attend:
Nursery and Reception Teachers who wish to enhance or update their mathematical subject knowledge. Pairs of teachers from the same school are recommended, but not essential.
The FREE programme consists of 3 separate sessions facilitated by Zoe Akers.
