Building Firm Mathematical Foundations in Early Years is aimed at settings who are currently developing a teaching for mastery approach in KS1 and KS2. Early Years practitioners and senior leaders will develop their understanding of how EY best practice feeds into a teaching for mastery approach and builds firm foundations for all children.
What is involved?
- three morning online workshops (maybe face-to-face in summer term)
- hands-on activities to try with your pupils in between the sessions, and opportunities to share your outcomes with others
- work in your own setting involving the EYFS practitioner, maths lead and a member of the senior leadership team
Who can apply?
This is aimed at schools and nurseries who have a commitment to teaching for mastery. Participating settings should send two members of staff, ideally an Early Years practitioner along with the teacher leading on teaching for mastery. There will be an additional, shorter session for senior leaders, which the headteacher or deputy should attend (date and time to be confirmed).
What is the cost?
The Building Firm Mathematical Foundations in Reception project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
Who will be leading the group?
Zoe Akers – Zoe is a Primary Maths Teaching for Mastery Specialist and experienced Early Years teacher.
