This project is designed to support Early Years teachers in developing specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics, thus enabling them to understand, teach and support pupils in maths in the classroom.
Who can take part?
These programmes are designed for individuals who would like to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths for three to five years olds.
This is relevant for EYFS staff. (Including Teachers, EY Practitioners, TA’s, NQT’s, ECT’s)
What is involved?
Due to popular demand:
Pathway Three:
This will develop understanding of how children progress with early math skills in Pattern, Shape, Space and Measures and consider how children develop early Numbers Sense with a close look at what is best practice in EYFS to support laying these good mathematical foundations for all children.
This pathway develops subject knowledge of how children progress with maths in the early years. This enables staff to be confident with knowing the progression in early maths and includes many practical ideas for staff to use to develop sound foundations in maths with pupils; this pathway supports the transition from theory to practice. We also explore early mark making in maths.
Pathway 3 is delivered over 4 x 3 hour sessions
What will you learn?
Participants will:
- develop enhanced maths subject knowledge with a particular emphasis on developmental progression in the Early Years to ensure sequences of learning are cohesive
- consider the learning opportunities and pedagogical approaches across the wider provision – reviewing and enhancing the opportunities to promote mathematical learning across the provision.
What is the cost?
The SKTM Early Years Programme project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
