Work Group outline
Several reports have referenced that the pandemic has had a significant impact on talking and reasoning and opportunities for Oracy with the classroom. This innovative Work Group seeks to explore the understanding and impact that the specific pedagogy of Oracy can have on pupils securing mathematical thinking. It aims to develop effective strategies which promote deep understanding by drawing attention to and speaking articulately about underlying mathematical structures.
Who can take part
The Work Group will be suitable for Secondary/Post-16 Teachers.
What is involved
Participants and their schools will:
- deepen their knowledge and understanding of Mathematical Oracy
- develop strategies to encourage students’ mathematical thinking
- promote a deep and secure understanding of maths
- understand the approaches which will support students in establishing connections
If you would like more information about this work-group then sign up to attend our ‘online taster session’ on Thursday 24th March 4.00pm – 5.00pm (via Zoom).
It is envisaged that this workgroup will be held online and session times/dates will be confirmed with participants.
What is the cost?
The Work Group is fully funded by the Maths Hub programme and is free to all participating schools/colleges.
