Work Group Outline
This project is designed to support Secondary Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Non-specialists in developing specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics, thus enabling them to understand, teach and support pupils in maths in the classroom.
What is involved?
The programme is based on four core primary modules:
- Number sense
- Additive reasoning
- Multiplicative reasoning
An additional module offers an introduction which sets the scene for the current maths teaching landscape. Depending on the structure of the programme at a local level, the time commitment will be equivalent to three or four days.
Who can apply?
These programmes are designed for Secondary Teaching Assistants and Non-specialists who are supporting maths, and who would like to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths. This may be particularly relevant for new TAs or TAs that have not received maths-specific training.
What is the cost?
The Secondary Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics – Teaching Assistants and Non-specialists programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
